About Max Trees

Owner-operated tree care in Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. Max quotes every job himself, and he is on site for the work.

Owner-Operated Tree Care in Ottawa

Max Trees is an owner-operated tree care company serving Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. We handle tree removal, pruning, stump grinding, hedge trimming, and cabling and bracing — and Max, the owner, quotes every job himself and is on site for the work. There is no call centre, no salesperson who has never held a saw, and no subcontractor sent in his place.

Max is Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ). That qualification is a structured method for judging how likely a tree is to fail, what it would hit, and how bad the result would be. In practice it means that when you are told a tree should come down — or, just as often, that it can safely stay — the recommendation comes from an assessment with a method behind it rather than a glance from the driveway. Formal training in tree climbing, arboriculture, tree diseases and species identification sits behind that.

Max Trees is deliberately small. A two- to three-person crew carries far less overhead than a large operation, and that shows up in the price without showing up in the standard of the work.

Experience & Qualifications

Over five years in the green industry — two in landscaping and three-plus specialising in tree work — backed by formal arboriculture education and the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).

Day to day that covers structural and maintenance pruning, hazardous and confined-access removals, cabling and bracing for trees worth keeping, and rope-access techniques for trees no machine can reach. Ottawa throws a particular set of problems at a climber: mature silver maples over 1960s bungalows, ash killed by emerald ash borer that cannot be trusted to hold a rope, and cedar hedges that have been left ten years too long. Those are the jobs we do most.

Our Crew

Our crew is two to three trained people, and it stays that size on purpose. Everyone on site has been trained on the gear they are using, and safety — ours and your property’s — sets the pace of the job rather than the schedule.

A small crew also means the person who quoted your job is the person doing it. Nothing gets lost between the estimate and the work, because there is nobody in between.

How We Work

Three things drive how we work. Save the tree where saving it is the right call. A good prune, a cable, or simply leaving a healthy tree alone is often better advice than a removal, and we will say so even though the removal pays better.

Quote it honestly and hold the number. Every quote is free, given before work starts, and the figure you agree to is the figure you pay. Change orders only happen if you change the scope.

Leave the site clean. Chipping, haul-away and raking are included in the price, not billed as an extra once the truck is loaded.

About Max

Hi, I’m Max — founder and lead climber at Max Trees. My background is in sports that reward discipline and problem-solving under load: I competed as a Team Ontario gymnast and later on a logger sports team. Climbing a compromised tree with a saw is not so different — you plan the sequence, you know your abort point, and you do not improvise sixty feet up.

I assess every project myself. If your tree can be saved, I will tell you how. If it cannot, I will tell you why, what it will cost, and when we can be there.
